Introduction
Deben UK came to Hexagon Webworks looking to transform their online presence and elevate their digital brand. As a global pioneer in precision engineering and in-situ microscopy instrumentation, their previous website didn’t fully reflect the advanced nature of their technology, nor did it offer the seamless user experience required by international scientific researchers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
Following a comprehensive discovery phase and audit, we recommended a completely bespoke WordPress website tailored to map out their wide product ranges and diverse scientific applications seamlessly.
The brief
Our task at Hexagon Webworks was to design and develop a modern, high-speed digital platform that effectively communicates Deben’s core mission: “Enabling In-Situ Research.” The new website needed to simplify user journeys across an extensive catalog—including their renowned Microtest™ tensile stages, Coolstage™ systems, and SEM detectors. Crucially, the platform had to be lightning-fast, fully mobile-optimised, and highly intuitive for their internal team to update and manage moving forward.
The Solution
To give the client complete autonomy over content management, we custom-built a WordPress website using Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) rather than relying on restrictive, heavy page builders. Designed and developed with scalability at its core, this approach ensures clean code, maximum security, and rapid load times for international users. We also integrated BIOZ for publications, and citations at product level.
The new site structure was meticulously planned around a dual-pathway navigation system, allowing users to browse either by product category (such as Tensile & Compression Stages or Scanning Electron Microscopy Solutions) or by industry application (ranging from electronics and aerospace to life sciences and geology). This ensures that academic researchers and engineering teams can instantly find the exact testing solutions compatible with their specific SEM, X-ray CT, or synchrotron configurations. The design also foregrounds high-resolution technical imagery, clear specification data tables, and seamless inquiry paths to maximise lead generation.

The new Deben UK website delivers a premium digital experience worthy of a world-class scientific manufacturer. Since launch, user navigation has been dramatically streamlined, ensuring that complex scientific data is accessible and engaging across all device sizes.
